aircon question

hi all i have a passat 130 tdi and when i put the heater control on auto the fan under the bonnet does not start someone told me the aircon needs re-charged and thats why its not workin is he right in sayin that ?also if the system did need recharging would it affect the mpg? i rarely have it on auto cos i know a car uses a lot more fuel than normal but even when mine is on econ i lose about 10 mpg any help will be appreciated thanks bill

when it is on econ the ac is off econ meaning econamycheers for replying i know mate thats whats puzzling when its on econ it shouldnt affect fuel economy but it does when i put aircon on the cooling fan does not energise if it needed recharging would that stop the fan from working ? cheers bill

fan will not work if it is very low on gas turn the ac on with temp on low does it get ice cold if not pos either low or empty of gas meaning pos leak or a electrical falt. if it gets nice an cold pos a fault with fan the fan is a 2 speed one speed 1 will work all the time when ac is on and speed 2 will come in if wether is very hot you will no if speed 2 comes in as is quite loud
