What kind of cable is it? USB, serial? I had some trouble with with mine and had to boot it in diagnostic mode. You can launch a config from cmd window called msconfig ( I think) and it allows you to start OS with minimal processes. Some laptops have battery power and other synchronise s/w running that causes issues. All the details can be found at www.ross-tech.com - troubleshooting.
