I have a '99 Audi A4 Quattro 2.8 V6 5-Speed Manual.

I walked out to the lot today to find my car battery dead after leaving the headlights on overnight. :Blush2: AAA was happy to send someone to jump me. My car immediately started up but the engine sounded very weak. After revving the engine a few times it stalled. We jumped it again and let it juice up for a moment. I backed the car out and noticed the check engine light was on.

My car now drives like a van. It accelerates extremely slowly and constantly bucks when I let off the gas. It feels very weak. I thought it was because the battery was low but the car ran for a while and the battery seems to be charged. I noticed that when idling, the engine cuts out at 1500 rpm and i have to keep on the gas so it can get by that "cutting" point. It also does this in first gear.

The engine is making a strange rattling noise to top it all off. It's not very loud but certainly noticeable and never made that noise before.

What is wrong with my car and how could this have happened from my battery dying??? It was running perfectly yesterday!

Hope someone else knows more but do these engines have a 'safe' mode with restricted power? However cutting out it sounds rather ominous, I'd think your best bet unfortunately is to see a specialist, get it plugged in and see what the ECU is saying.

Sorry that's not much help

Agreed. If you have a problem after a battery problem, first I would check the area around the battery, making sure the MAF sensor is plugged in properly but if the battery is now charged, have it plugged in and get a diagnostic report. If its electrical, it will tell you what it is in the report.

I took it to an audi dealer today. The engine management system just needed to be reset because it malfunctioned after the battery was dead. All is good, YAY! :D
