Does anyone know if there is any chip available to my Audi A4 1.8 B8? What do you suggest, should I chip it after some miles or can I do it right now? Someone who can learn me something new?

Good question and one I wish I could answer. I am waiting for my 2.0 Tdi and am thinking of doing the same thing. If anyone could provide an answer for both petrol and deisel model it would make good reading.

Yes both of these can be done. The 1.8T I'm assuming is the TFSI engine this will need to be a chip as no one has cracked the coding on these ECU's yet but you will still see between 40-50hp and 70-90nm gains. The 2.0Tdi is a remap and can gain upto 50hp and 100nm.

Feel free to call me on 07756 190026.

Thanks, Mark

hey up fella,

try Custom Code, i had my A3 2.0tdi remap by them , it is brilliant, no flatspots at all and can be adjusted too,

i am awaiting the delivery on a 1.8T S-Line and have already asked the guys that did my A3 (psi tuning) about a Custom Code remap on my new A4, they assure me they can and it should take the 160ps standard up to 190-200ps, i will definately be having it done along with a new full exhaust and lowering.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if the 120 hp and 160 hp 1.8TFSI engines are the same? Especially if you want to chip the 120 hp compared to the 160 hp. I'm wondering when you chip both engines, can you achieve the same performance, because they are the exact same engines?

I have just modified a 1.8TFSI last week. With 206bhp and 358Nm, it is faster then the standard GTI. The problem with the new ECU is that VAG has spent over Euro 10 mil. to encript , and it will take sometime for someone to crack it. Our solution is a 'piggy-back' ECU, which is a "plug&play' device with Ram-air intake. My next stage is to change the K03 to K04 and try to make it to 240bhp.

Hi Hodge,
We are working with a company in Athens on this new product. It will be available in 2 weeks. Price is approx. EU800. It is a bit pricey, but it is a 'plug& play' system, so it can installed on different vehicles with 1.8TFSI
It is unlikely anyone can crack the ECU in the near future and it's impossible to do it through OBDII. Big companies such as ABT/MTM has spent 6 months without success. The latest info was to resoldered the ECU but still has no 100% successful rate.

cool , ok fella i take it you are involved with this company, may be contacting you again in the near future when i get my car delivered (early june) for more info . i do know they have managed to remap the RS4 now so i presume it wont be long before they work the 1.8 out, i will be wanting mine done as soon as i get it though

cheers

How much faster is it? 0-100 ? Top speed? Can you feel the power when you're driving it more than usual? What about the consumption?

The new RS4 is using the the old ECU. All the newer models such as the A4 8K, A5 uses the new ones. For VW side, all the new models from Golf VI will be using this new ECU, that's including the new Scirocco. The main reason VAG wants to lock it, is because of the fuel economy. From what I've tested(aggressively), the fuel consumption has increased slightly with the new device, but only around 5-10% level. For normal driving, it remains approx. the same. It was tested in a new A5 for 5 hrs in a race course, so no timed figures at the moment. I was driving a standard GTI on the same day, and the modified A5 feels faster than the GTI.
I've ordered a new 1.8TFSI A4 from ABT which is due for delivery in June. Most of the tune up parts are special ordered already, so when they arrived and tested, I'll let you guys know.

Sorry to hijack, but are the 120PS and 160PS engines identical? Followed this thread and no one has really answered that part yet.. Thanks.

Revo Technik have cracked the ECU security and offer a switchable remap see the latest news on their site http://www.revotechnik.com/aboutRevo/news/index.aspx

Hi Kelvin, the Revo chip has been out for some time, even MTM has the chip out. But is the chip usable on the 120 version as well? Anyone any idea?

the 1.8TFSI you modified, is it manual or CVT transmission? if the latter can the CVT gear box handle that amount of torque (358 nm) without 'giving' way.

if i read correctly from the mtm website, the mtm chip is for the 160 version, dont think its applicable to the 120 version, not sure about the revo ones tho.

Does anyone know if a removable chip is available for the 120 version yet? I will have mine on order very soon and would like to have a chip I can remove easily (company car) ;)

guys.I am from greece and i own the 120hp version. My dealer told me that the two engines (120hp n 160hp)are exactly the same. same engine SAME ECU same turbo.the difference is in turbo settings and ECU programming. in 2nd August (when i ordered the car) he told me that he can increase my horsepower up to 190hp with no problem. he also told me that they had a car up to 206hp but they mentioned temperature probs.I dont know details i dont know even if its true. Just wanted to mention it.Thanx

P.S: this car is amazing.

The dealer told there was some minor differences between the two. He had a look at the parts list, and he said it was some different parts, piston rings etc. . It may be he said so just to not make me regret ordering the 160 instead of the 120 ps..

No - just the 1.8T engine - I have just found this place which is looking promising as I would like to see the place that is doing the work...

http://custom-code.co.uk/ -- £300

Twice as much, but I assume piee of mind is worth something...

I've recently had a superchip recently fitted to my 1.8T, but i'm not happy with it. As soon as i left the garage, it had lag at various revs and different speeds just for a second or so. I spoke to the garage and they said to take it back in for them to check, but due to work commitments i can't get it checked until mid Oct. I'm impressed with the power increase though, so i'm looking forward to sorting it out

Cheers

Interesting - please update the thread when the garage has sorted it out. Hopefully it all goes well. Cheers

"The tuning is not detectable"...

Hmm. Right-o.

Anyone else worried that a tuned chip Audi would invalidate any insurance in the event of an accident? The say it's "undetectable" but to an insurance company looking for a way out of a claim - I wonder?

I was all gung-ho to go for until a colleague at work brought up this point...

You shouldn't be worried, as you should tell your insurer no two ways about it.

Any tuning is NOT undetectable and don't let anyone tell you different.

See http://www.sharkperformance.co.uk/tuning-faq.asp for more information and a few FAQs.

ellinas ise? what is the "KO3" and the "KO4"? a chip tune on an A4 B8 1.8TFSI 120hp wouldnt take it to approx 200hp and 300+nm of torque? what do you mean by plug and play? What is a piggy back ECU? Sorry for asking so many questions but i want to chip tune mine and i need to learn some things. Evereybody what are the main chip companies you do reccomend?
