Hi, I started my 01 Passat with the passangers seat removed. The airbag warning light now stays on as does the seat belt reminder light. Can I reset these without the OBD tool. Is there any sequence of proceedures for this like there is in the BMW.:aargh4:

what about taking the battery connectors off, will this reset the airbag sign?

an airbag fault light is indicative of a fault with the airbag. the airbag is a safety feature, as we all know.

Have you looked into the fault or had it diagnosed/repaired by a garage?

you are aware that an airbag fault is an instant MOT failure and as such, should be looked at by a proffessional.

That said, get the fault looked at and rectified ASAP, as you are endangering yourself and others not doing so.

I don't know how to reset the airbag light but, It is NOT an MOT failure.

No, quite right it isn't an MOT failure YET but **** the car and get hurt due to a lack of air bag deployment and the insurance company may take a dim view of you driving with a safety system faulty.

The Vagcom cable and Rosstech software is your best bet!

I know this post is way after the original, but I've had the airbag warning light come on in a VW Passat 2.0TDi 2006 model ;

I looked on Rosstech but couldn't find anything to do with airbags, VagCom etc - where do I need to look????

VAG-COM now called VCDS - http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/product.html

Airbags - http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/airbag-coding.html

Can you get a cheap vag com cable for a mk 5 golf yet?
most seem to only work upto the mk4.

Vag-com (VCDS) Cables are cheap, but not ebay cheap, the MK5 is a CAN-BUS system, so the cheapest cable is a VCDS MicroCAN at around £200.

Or look in the vagcom section for a member in your area who's willing to turn it off for you....

Onzarob, whereabouts in Cornwall are you? I'm in Wadebridge, have created the same problem with a 2006 Polo 1.4 TDI and my MOT is on Wednesday...
