Battery warning light

Hi can anyone tell me what the red battery warning light on the dash means?? I have a 2000 new beetle. I thought it would obviously be something to do with the battery and maybe its not charging? (mine occasionally comes on when I'm driving)
But...someone told me it was for the cam belt :confused:

Thought it was a bit strange but just wanted to check.

hi did you find out wot the problem was i also have the same problen i think it cold be the alternater
