Seat Airbags?

Hi all, i have the chance of a full Alcantara inetrior for my 1997 A3, mine are satrting to show their age, will these be a direct swap, the seats are from a 1999 model and have airbags fitted to the front seats, i am concerned as to whether i can fit airbag seats to a car that never had them before, any ideas???
