hi everyone, any ideas
octavia 03 1.9 sdi

remote keys won't lock or unlock the car, even the spare. got a new key and had it programmed but stiil nothing. if the key is used manually it sets off the alarm which is embarrassing in asda's car park. the dealer said it might be the ecu!!. any ideas..... cheers

It is unusual for an 03 Octavia to have the alarm (both my own 03 VRS and my friends 52 Lauren and Clement only have the remote central locking), and it was an option and so why the dealer is not experienced with it. The first thing to do it have a fault code read done on the Convenience Unit (the ECU) and see what codes come up. Then have them cleared and re-tested. These same conv units are used in Golf and Passat’s and do suffer problems, more so on the Passat due to water ingress. Water can occasionally get to the conv unit on the Golf/ Octavia from leaks in the drip tray wiring cover, do you get water on the drivers floor?
