passat 99 petrol co high

i have recently bought a passat 18 20v 1999 apt ehad gasket was gone so took off head it was warped beyond machining got hold of a recon one fitted it runs sound took it for mot failed on emissions co was high can anyone give me some advice on lowering the co to get it through the mot please apart from selling it:confused::confused::1zhelp:

Possibly something like a Lambda sensor or something as such.

thanks for the info i took my passat to a independent vw mechanic and had it put on computerised test the machanic said i had a fault with my air flow meter and also my engine temp sender.I have ordered both today and will fit them tommorow i will let you now the results thanks for reply

Temp sender does seem reasonable, to be honest.
