I drive a 2001 Audi A4 1.9TDI Sport and the ABS warning light comes on intermittently, as well as the brake system light. These then stay on until I stop and turn the car off. After restarting immediately the warning lights clear and stay off.

I took it to the independent mechanic who services it (specialises in VW/Audi He serviced it and tested it on the computer and it came up with a faulty switch at the brake pedal. He replaced this, all sensors looked okay. Computer then showed everything was okay..

The problem however is still occurring, seems to happen when I am gently braking.

Has anybody experienced anything like this? or can offer any advice? It is going back to the mechanic for further checks but I am looking for suggestions as to what the issue could be .

Thanks

I'm driving an 1997 VR6 Golf with this exact same problem. It seems like it may even make a slight noise at times, as I smoothly apply the brake, as if the ABS 'thinks' that one of the wheels is slipping... I have assumed that it is just because I have one tire that in worn down more than the others, thus causing a false signal in the ABS. I have decided to ignore it until...I get new tires, and it still happens...or...The ABS light stays on for more than a couple of startups...or...the next government safety inspection and they tell me that I have to.

My independent mechanic who services it (specialises in VW/Audi) has finally got it sorted. There seems to be a switch connected to Brake Pedal which controls brake light. This seems to be integrated with ABS system. Replaced switch, computer said everything okay, took it for a drive, braked a few times light came on, computer then showed fault again. Took 4 switches before we got one which worked 100%. Driving as last couple of weeks and no more warning lights coming on.

Not sure what the exact code was but it was a faultly brake switch
