View Full Version : FAO our tuning companies - Letting a remap "bed in"

I keep seeing this phrase pop up in various threads both here and on other forums.

What does it mean?

In simpleton terms, I always thought that when a remap was applied, some values were changed within the car's ECU. When that is done, the remap is completed.

If the ECU is told what to expect, where does the bedding in process come into play?

It is the same as deleting the learnt values on an original map. Every car is different and the ECU will take a little time to re-adapt to the slight differences each engine has. This is especially true with generic maps, not so relevant when a car has been custom mapped.

What he said, for example, Ben (GOLFMKVGTTDI) got 180hp on the rollers after his remap, he came backa few months later and was running at 190hp. SOme cars take longer than other especially N/A engines.

Most of the old school, VAG 'fuzzy logic' adaptations work on a rolling 50mile cycle. (using distance/not time/ignition cycles etc)

Not sure about the new cars.
