1989F Golf Electric Windows

Dear all,

Has anyone got experience with taking electric windows apart and putting them back together again (so they're mounted properly!)

My electric windows are stuck in the up position, and I've had one of the doors off and the motor etc. out... Manually loosening the motor (car's been sitting up for about 5 years) allows the switch to operate it. I can't figure out how to get it all back together again. The typical Haynes response (refitting is the reverse of removal) is poor instruction....!

Car is a 1989 (F Plate) MkII Golf GTi 1.8 8v 3dr, the windows are the larger ones without the front quarterlight.

Hey Cr2 , The quickest and easiest way to do that job is to get a similar car and strip out one door, once you see it ; it ll all make sense . I have had experience of the motor seizing so you might need to clean it up! but the cable could also be seized ! Note The cables are no longer available from VAG!
