Hi,

I'm looking for a A4 Avant 1.9TdiSE for about 5k but they've all got over 100k miles on them. If I did find one which had 70k-80k on it, what are the sorts of problems I could expect with high mileage 1.9Tdi's? I expect to keep it for a good few years. What is the expected engine life of a 1.9 TDi?

Any help appreciated, Chris.

There isn't any reason why it shouldn't see 150-200,000miles, cars are built alot better nowadays and 100K miles is the new 50K miles.

The only thing possibly (I'm new to audis) are the fuel system can have problems, but if bought carefully at around 80K miles it should last alot longer without problems.

I bought mine in October with 65K miles and it drives like new with no sloppiness or rattles.

But for £5K I doubt you would get a 70K miler unless its the old shape. Most that have done around 7K on say a 02/03 plate with decent spec will be around £8-9K. I paid £10.5K for an 03 65K miles, 130 SE sports interior, cruise etc. Parkers guide put it at near £11-12K with less mileage.

These do some, but again high miles but high spec http://www.audidiesels.com/index.htm

TDIs will keep going on and on. I would have no hesitation getting a 150k miler if it was cheap enough, and it had been serviced regularly. Just watch for newer cars that have done high miles as they tend to be ex-taxis.

Hi,dont worry about high mileage on a Audi diesel, mine is a 1996 reg 1.9 tdi 110 bhp and has done 145000 miles and still runs as sweet as a sewing machine and not a rattle to be heard.I was talking to a diesel injection specialist who has been in the trade for many years and he rates the WW/AUDI the best on the market.
Hope this gives you peace of mind.

I am only going by word of mouth here, but a Taxi Driver in Bournemouth was said to have completed 670,000 miles in his A6 TDI; With high mileages each day the engine would have had a high percentage of the miles covered with the engine at full operating temperature.

If you buy an older A4 TDI then get it thoroughly checked out as they are easy too clock, so I'm told. Make sure it is a T reg or newer as the Engine Timing belts and front suspension etc., were updated.
As said, the fuel system can be a very, very expensive problem and that applies also to front suspension, Dashboard, oil cooler pump, and make sure it has an Audi main dealer timing belt change.

An Audi service receipt should mention any problems coming up with the vehicle. Make sure that Audi's did the repair job.

" An Audi without a full Audi service record isn't worth a light ", comments that I wish I'd heeded.
