well the car has immobiliser
each key has a rfid plastic capsule in each key
you will need to get one cut with a rfid in it
and get the key cutter to supply one (they can do it if they have the RFID programmer)
then that key will need to be matched to the car
there is a couple of FAQ on how to do this
thanks

Can you just get a key from ebay?

well you could get a key from ebay
as long as it has A RFID chip in it
then you could reprogramme the car to accept the key
then will work fine

will point out something here

DO NOT TRY AND START THE CAR WITH A KEY WITHOUT A RFID IN IT
AND WITH OUT IT BEING PROGRAMMED FOR THE CAR FIRST

OTHERWISE

THE (ON DIESEL CARS) THE COIL LIGHT FLASHES ON AND OFF INDICATING A ERROR HAS BEEN LOGGED(THE LOGS SAYS RFID TO FAINT OR MISSING)
AND YOU NEED A VAGCOM TO RESET(THIS IS ANNOYING WHEN DRIVING FLASHING ALL THE TIME)

MBU10.
MANY THANKS TO YOU. ITS CLEAR THAT A DIY KEY CUTTER IS NO USE.
GOING TO TALK TO LOCAL AUDI DEALER
(TEESSIDE) AND TAKE IT FROM THERE.
WILL LET EVERYONE KNOW WHAT IS INVOLVED AND COST CHEERS MBU10.

here is a idea but still not cheap
you can get a key from ebay
like one like this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUDI-TRANSPONDER-FLIP-KEY-FOB-A2-A3-A4-A6-A8-TT-GENUINE_W0QQitemZ150232961184QQihZ005QQcategoryZ10 372QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
which has atransponder in it
and get the blade replaced (about another 20 - 40 depending where you go)
and then follow the instructions
but that is a remote key fob
you could try
this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BLANK-UNCUT-AUDI-3-BUTTON-REMOTE-KEY-A2-A3-A4-A6-A8-S2_W0QQitemZ220223020829QQihZ012QQcategoryZ100916Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

which is blank
but sometimes it just cheaper to buy a original from audi and get cut
but not always

if you do not want a spare remote key go for this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Audi-A2-A3-A4-A6-A8-CABRIO-COUPE-transponder-key-blank_W0QQitemZ130199869699QQihZ003QQcategoryZ1037 2QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l1247 QQcmdZViewItem

get cut to your key and program
and although will not let you remote open car(you can put key in to open)
and start car once the car has been programmed to accept it
follow FAQ for that
