Watchdog profiled this very problem earlier this year after pressure from countless TT owners with the same problem.

You'll need to contact your local Audi dealer, tell 'em you've got The Dashpod Problem and they should replace it FOC.
Good luck.

They were all built in Germany, weren't they?
Sounds to me like Audi UK are up to their usual tricks - if there's wriggle room, they'll exploit it. I don't think they have a leg to stand on - they've already admitted ON WATCHDOG there's a problem and they'll sort it out. I haven't watched the whole mpeg on the above link but I suggest you do.
Either call a solicitor or send a registered letter to the Chairman of VW UK asking him to explain which particular aspect of your treatment he finds acceptable.
If a registered (signed-for) letter doesn't ellicit the desired response, call a solictor.
I've suffered recently at Audi UK's hands so I can empathise completely. They haven't escaped my grasp yet. Make sure you keep at 'em, too.
Please give me an update next week to let me know how you're getting on.
Good luck,
Clive

Hi I have been reading this thread and the problem that I am having with my Audi TT seems to be related.

About two months ago the clock and odometer reset overnight. After resetting the time etc. everything else seemed to be OK. Next journey, clock and odometer had reset. Then my battery seemed to be showing signs of age and loosing its charge. I changed the battery and everything seemed to be fine other than the clock and odometer resetting overnight or when left parked for eight hours or so.

This Christmas we went away for three days and left the car with the alarm set, in our garage. When we returned the battery was completely flat.

After a 12 hour charge, the battery was fine for a couple of days then not able to turn over the engine.

Before taking the car to the Audi dealer, to be told that I need a new this and that and the cost would be in the thousands, I took it to an auto electician to check over. He suggested that the drain on the battery was coming from the instrument panel and he was unable to fix this as it needs specialist equipment.

This brings me up to now. I then remembered that I was a member of this forum and decided to take a look.

Thanks for the information provided, I have read the BBC article and will be calling the Audi help line after writing this post.

I will let you know how I get on.

By the way, the car was purchased new and registered on 1st March 2001. More that their 5 year waiver I guess.

Regards, Dave

Hi All,

Since my last post, I contacted my dealer and they wanted me to book it in for them to have a look.

The car was booked in on Tuesday (16th Jan) no promises were made at the time, only that they would contact Audi if it was the Dashpod.

A phone call from them later suggested it was the Dashpod and the good news was not only Audi were prepared to stump up the whole cost of replacement but they had one in stock. I was asked to provide them with the complete set of keys (for reprogramming), a passport and the V5 form for varification.

This was promptly done and we picked up the TT on Wednesday 17th Jan all done. Washed and valetted as well.

That's what I call service. The dealer deserves a mention - Chelmsford Audi and the contact was Chris.

Best of luck to the rest of you TT owners that have similar problems.

Regards,

Dave

PS Chris did say that Audi were changing dashpods if they suffered battery drain or problems with the fuel guage. Other problems would be dealt with in an adhoc way.

davemmgd...
umesh here just read your thread(now i am getting used to using this forum),what was the final outcome of your tt ptoblem with the dealers as i have done exactly what you said(on the car that is) and with a new battery last year the battery light still comes on when it is really cold(-2celius and below),when i have done numerous short journey's day;but when it is before/week if i start the car up without using my heavy current consumers(rear windscreen heater, main fan blower or electric seat heating)although battery light comes on the dash does not go dim and revs/speedo do not go dead??

umesh,

Please read my previous post. My local Audi dealer fixed the problem by changing the Dashpod free of charge.

A subsequent problem did occur though and it seemed as though the Dashpod they replaced was also faulty. The battery was still going flat. After leaving the car with them for four days to make sure that they fixed the battery draining problem, they tested everything and found that under load the battery showed a weak cell. The battery was replaced and all is now well.

Best of luck with your fault finding, but give the dealer or a trained vehicle electrician a try.

Dave

Hi there, the hotline number is 0800 699888, good luck, my dash is playing up again with this dashpod problem, because my audi is an import even though it is built with british specifications i have got to pay for this to be fixed about 800 pounds, i dont know what else i can do,

Hello ,thanks for the number but mine is an import as well but there is a way of reducing the risk of it occuring..when you start the car(mainly on cold days) do not use rear windscreen heater or electric heating on seats hence by reducing the load on your battery the problem will not happen that often. Is is worth giving watchdog a ring i wonder.
