Hi All,

I've just managed to get hold of a 3A engine (bubble block) from an Audi 80, with the intention of re-building it (as condition is unknown) and swaping it into my '83 mk1 gti.

I've read on other forums that you need to put the 1.8 DX head on to the 2.0 bottom end to do this. Does anyone know why this is? is it just so you can continue using the K-jet injection system or is there some other reason? I may run this a carb engine (bike carbs), so k-jet wouldn't be an issue.

Are there any differences between the two heads in terms combustion chamber volume & valve sizes? I know the 2.0 3A is hydraulic tappet, and the 1.8 DX has solid followers, so there is more opportunity for tuning the 1.8 head in terms of higher lift cams, without having to change the followers.

I'm basically looking to get the engine ready and rebuilt so I can do a quick swap, so any information would be welcome, especially from anyone who has done this swap before.

Cheers,
Dave
