can i hook up an ipod to my cd changer plugin?

if i took an ipod 1/8'' jack that converts to an rca cable and changed the rca ends to pins that would fit, could i just plug them into the left/right speaker pin slots for my cd changer in the trunk and it work? or would it be a little more complicated than that? i dont have the extra cash for an adaptor, and just wanna listen to my ipod with quality sound. (the casett adaptor sounds horrible!)
