Fan Belt Change for Passat 1.8 1999

Hi,

I have just had a breakdown on the motorway and been advised by the breakdown company that my fan belt had broken.

I have had the car towed to my local garage who advise me that I will need two new ribbed belts and a main auto tensioner.

This leads me to ask a number of questions :-

1.Could you tell me how much I should expect to pay for this work?

2.What is the life expectancy of these belts. My passat has covered 94000 miles before giving up on me?

3. Is there a recommended time to change these belts as with the cambelt?

They should be changed when the cam belt is also changed, at 94K they are well past their best. I have seen these fail and take the cam belt with them.
