Back Fire

Does anyone know what is the back fire & what are the disadvantage of it besides how to stop that back fire????

When you say backfire? do you meen like a pop from the exhaust?

Its caused by excess fuel igniting in the exhaust, my mk2 gti does it if u rev it 2-3 times...

No idea how u stop it as it doesnt bother me! alot of cars do it if u boot it then back off.... doesnt do any harm

Which Golf 2 engine and can you explain the problem a little more, such as in what way it shows itself?
