Hi, I am a new member to this site but I in need of some HELP!!, this question has probably been asked before but being a simpleton I'm hoping somebody can assist me.
I have a 2001 A4 1.8se saloon, last of the original shape B5(?) models, fitted with a Concert 1 radio which has died with the volumne problem. I would like to keep the car original as possible, so is it possible to fit a Concert 2 radio with regards to wiring/physical size/ work with the DIS display/ dash cutout slot etc???
Also I have seen Concert 2 radios with different part codes, and with buttons that are retractable or fixed, does the different part codes refer to the differing DIN sizing to the units/ connections etc??
I would be very gratefull for any assistance.
Regards, Jason

Hi, I am trying the same thing concert II into a Concert I. Not all are the same size. Some sizes are given below also a good site is:
http://www.ibiblio.org/tkan/audi/radios/
One issue you will get is the older Audis do not have the CAN BUS which means a Concert II will not light up the buttons and does not power from the ignition switch. As a result it will power off after one hour.
8E 0035 86D 8E0035186J 235mm x 65mm silver strip
8Z 0057 186GX
8B0 035 186 Q 220mm across the top and 58mm bose system
There is a fix for the buttons illumination on the Audi-Sport.net forum, but requires opening up soldering and a wire out of the radio
Cheers hope this helps.

Hi Rmullins, many thanks for the info, good to know I am not the only one with this problem. I am off to borrow the Concert 2 unit from my dads A4 advant, now I've purchase some removal keys.

You will have a lot of difficulty getting the Concert II to work properly where a Concert 1 has been fitted.

The Mk II cd units units, rely on a CAN bus signal to turn on / off with the ignition that is not present in the older cars.

The size issue will also present a problem as they are different widths and heights fittings between the old and new units.

The volume control problem can be fixed, but requires replacement of the main microprocessor in the Concert I. My firm specialise in these repairs if you want further details please let me know.

Evening Folks,
Have noticed there's usually a few 2nd hand Concert units kicking around on ebay and in the classifieds on some of the UK Audi forums. Maybe worth a look?
Good luck resolving the issue!
