I did my own falut code reading using an ebay purchased lead and a free software version 409 vag-com on my 1997 audi a4 1.9tdi.
I got the following fault codes on the engine module before it came up with the error, that i needed to register it.
Chassis Type: 8D - Audi A4 B5
Scan: 01,02,03,08,15,17,25,35,45,55,56
Address 01 -------------------------------------------------------
Controller: 028 906 021 GN
Component: 1,9l R4 EDC 00SG 1437
Coding: 00002
Shop #: WSC 06335
3 Faults Found:
17978 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer
P1570 - 35-00 - -
00575 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
17-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent
00553 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
31-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent
Readiness: N/A
this is the point it bombed me out and said i needed to registar the software.
any ideas guys? Do i have to scan all the other modules manually if i only have a shareware version of vag com or is there still a way of doing an autoscan?
And also can the cylinders be pressure tested using the vag-com software or is it possible at all to see if the seals are damaged on the cylinders by using some of the information gathered from the car via vag-com?
Cheers matt
