I did my own falut code reading using an ebay purchased lead and a free software version 409 vag-com on my 1997 audi a4 1.9tdi.

I got the following fault codes on the engine module before it came up with the error, that i needed to register it.
Chassis Type: 8D - Audi A4 B5
Scan: 01,02,03,08,15,17,25,35,45,55,56

Address 01 -------------------------------------------------------
Controller: 028 906 021 GN
Component: 1,9l R4 EDC 00SG 1437
Coding: 00002
Shop #: WSC 06335
3 Faults Found:
17978 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer
P1570 - 35-00 - -
00575 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
17-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent
00553 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
31-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent
Readiness: N/A

this is the point it bombed me out and said i needed to registar the software.

any ideas guys? Do i have to scan all the other modules manually if i only have a shareware version of vag com or is there still a way of doing an autoscan?

And also can the cylinders be pressure tested using the vag-com software or is it possible at all to see if the seals are damaged on the cylinders by using some of the information gathered from the car via vag-com?

Cheers matt

Shareware will only do auto-scan the first few modules it finds, but you can easily enough access them manually.

Pay the full price you tight wad, the software is WELL worth it! 99 dollars comes to 49 pounds, well if you dont have 49pounds then its still alot, but the software is worth it.

Aternatively find someone local to you who has the software and see if they will willing to help you.

Not the sort of question to ask UWE as He developed VagCom.

As above, you're asking this question on a thread with a reply by the guy who poured blood and sweat into this product.

You will not discuss this matter any more on this forum

I should imagine Uwe who replied previously would not be too impressed at you requesting information on how to steal his software. If people continually steal software, developers will stop, well, developing…

17978 - 35-00 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer
00575 - 17-10 - Intake manifold pressure Control difference
00553 - 31-10 - Air mass meter -G70

Plus... any other form of VAG-COM other than an "OFFICIAL" licence purchased from Ross Tech will be a pirate copy, hacked copy, and would therefore be illegal.

The cost of this software is a small price to pay for an excellent package.

As already stated we do not allow discussion along these lines!

the only way to avoid paying the $99 licence fee is to buy an official lead, which activates the software. avaliable from www.ross-tech.com (http://www.ross-tech.com)
