More new engines with advanced Audi direct petrol injection technology for A3, A6 and Q7 models

New four-cylinder 1.8-litre Turbo FSI petrol engine with 160PS @ 5,000 – 6,200rpm and 250Nm @ 1,500 – 4,200rpm for A3 models. Available with manual and S tronic transmissions
New naturally aspirated 2.8-litre V6 FSI petrol engine with 210PS @ 5,500 – 6,800rpm and 280Nm @ 3,000 – 5,000rpm for A6 Saloon and Avant models. Available with manual and multitronic transmissions.
New naturally aspirated 3.6-litre V6 FSI petrol engine with 280PS @ 6,200rpm and 360Nm @ 2,500rpm for Q7 models. Six-speed tiptronic transmission standard
A3 1.8 TFSI priced from £18,100 OTR, 0-62mph in 8.0 seconds, top speed 136mph, combined MPG 38.6, C02 174g/km
A6 Saloon and Avant 2.8 FSI priced from £27,555 and £29,125 OTR, 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds, top speed 151mph, combined MPG 32.4, C02 207g
Q7 3.6 FSI priced from £38,225 OTR, 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds, top speed 142mph, combined MPG 22.2, C02 304gThree more ultra-efficient FSI petrol engines join the Audi range this week, taking the total number of Audi units deriving maximum economy and reduced emissions from leading edge FSI direct injection technology to 13 across the range.

A3 and A3 Sportback models - already offering the benefits of FSI direct petrol injection in their 1.6-litre, 2.0-litre and 2.0-litre Turbo engines – are also now available with a completely new 1.8-litre Turbo FSI unit with 160PS and 250Nm of torque. The second Audi unit to combine turbo charging and FSI injection takes the three-door A3 1.8 TFSI to 62mph in 8.0 seconds and on to a top speed of 136mph, while also returning up to 38.6mpg with an impressively low C02 output of 174g/km.

The 3.2-litre V6, 4.2-litre V8 and 5.2-litre V10 FSI engines powering the A6 Saloon and Avant ranges have been joined by a new 2.8-litre V6 FSI with 210PS and 280Nm which is especially notable for its innovative Audi valvelift system. Making its debut in an Audi engine, the valvelift system further reduces fuel consumption by around ten per cent by controlling valve movement far more precisely than conventional systems. With its help, the A6 2.8 FSI can cover the 0-62mph increment in 7.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 151mph, yet is also capable of a combined economy figure of 32.4mpg with a relatively low C02 output of 207g/km.

The third new engine is destined for the Q7, and creates the first six-cylinder petrol version of this acclaimed seven-seat, air-suspended luxury SUV. Slotting between the 3.0 TDI V6 and 4.2-litre V8 FSI models, the new Q7 3.6 FSI delivers 280PS and 360Nm, and powers to 62mph in 8.5 seconds on the way to a 142mph maximum speed. Considering its performance and its impressive capacity for passengers and luggage, this new version also returns a commendable consumption figure of 22.2mpg, with C02 output of 304g/km.

FSI technology now streamlines the operation of the majority of petrol engines in the Audi range, from the A3’s four-cylinder, 115PS 1.6 FSI to the mighty ten-cylinder, 450PS V10 FSI powering S8 models. Its extremely beneficial effect on emissions, economy and performance is achieved by the injection of fuel directly into the cylinders (not as fuel vapour via the conventional inlet manifold) via a high-pressure common rail injection system supplied by a single-piston injection pump.
