Another Transporter 2.5 Tdi Starting problem

My Autosleeper Transporter 2.5 tdi won't start.

No Glow plug light, fuses checked and ok.

Before I start doing difficult stuff and before my belatedly ordered Workshop Manual arrives (Wednesday maybe) how can I check the glow plug relay - for a start where is it? What does it look like?

A mate told me to take all the leads off of the glow plugs, make up a 12v test lamp with long leads put one end into the lead for glow plug and the other to ground, turn on the key and see if bulb lights, it should then go out in approx 15 - 20 secs, do all in turn, then put the lamp lead on the tip of glow plug and then to positive on battery this should light if plug ok, if nothing happens on both try fuse which is near battery, Location for relay should be in your handbook.
