Hi - I've a 2001 Mk IV Golf Estate (90 bhp TDI) - its currently got 147k miles and still on its 1st clutch.

What life have other readers achieved?

When should I reasonable expect to have to replace it - I am minded to do it as planned maintenance soonish, rather than get abandoned on the side of the road with a busted cable and a plane to catch...

Thanks in advance.

My uncle got 244,000 miles out of his passat 1.9tdi before he sold it and that was on the same clutch and turbo, nothing replacd at all, only ever serviced (not by VW). but it all depends on driving type and where it is driven, (town, motorway or country)

Thanks for the hopeful information - most of it has been motorway so I remain optimistic.

towing kills them quicker but if you are kind you can get megga miles. mines doine 70+ on this one the last one lasted well over 100k

Mine is still on its first clutch at 143k although it bites near the very top, but has been doing so for 20k.
