The temp sender? A fault code read should show it up as being faulty if there is a problem.

This AM the gauge stayed on 60 for 15 mins before then rising up to 90 in the space of 3 mins (Once i got to the motorway). I have'nt got a code reader so would not be able to identify the fault. However when i dropped it into an Audi dealer last week he did mention that the temp gauge was slow to register, hence why i booked it in on monday to be changed.

Sounds quite normal to me. (Leaon Cupra TDI 150)

I'd say 10 minutes around town or 2-3 minutes or motorway driving are what it takes to get to 90 on most days, in freezing temps i could drive it for 30 minutes in traffic and see it drop!
