Has anyone got one of these?

I am thinking of bagging one but just wondered?

Is it as good as VAGCOM?
What year cars does it work on (i.e. CAN Bus??)
Can you do all the adaption codes and long coding etc as per VAGCOM?
How much I should pay for one?

Thanks

Rich

You mean one of these (https://erwin.volkswagen.de/workshop/englisch/index.htm?/workshop/englisch/pinfo/40521000000.htm)? They're quite pricey and there hasn't been a software update in several years.

Ask yourself something, how will a tool with such limited display size show you a 30 byte (60 digits) coding and how are you supposed to make changes to that by using 6 buttons?

I hardly doubt you will have much fun using it on current models, but what we can tell you already is that this tool will definitely NOT support all control modules in the latest 2008 models and will definitely NOT support some/most of the newer/future models.

Hi VAS 5053 is a diagnostic tool we use in VAG workshops.VAG 5053 is nothing similar to VAS5053 and they are not available for private purchase.

Actually that is not totally true, everybody willing to pay the price can buy the original VW/Audi tools, the question is if it is really worth it. I bought a VAS-5053 directly from VW a couple of years ago, so I think I know what I am talking about. ;)

The one your thinking of buying?

Yes that is it. I actually bit the bullet and got it as my mate wants to look at some cars on sunday so I needed it quick.

Got it from www.talktomycar.co.uk (http://www.talktomycar.co.uk) they were very good and had it by 10:30 yesterday after ording it Thursday.

Tried it on my Audi about 2 nanoseconds after unpacking it and it works fine on there. It isn't as easy to use as VAG-COM but I will always have that as a backup despite being an ancient version.

You just need to know what you are doing more with this but it does all the adaption, measuring blocks and every thing I wanted. I comes in a case with the ODB2 cable and a serial cable to connect to your pc. (USB-Serial adaptor needed for laptops)

The pc connection is just for updates I think at this time but I couldn't find any updates yet for it.

I was looking at getting one of these. Have just started looking on the web for prices and found one on ebay:

The links in your original posts are gone so I was wondering if this is the same unit you purchased? Is it any good? How is the device updated - via USB?

Thanks in advance.

Yes it is a good unit but update is via serial parallel cable. You can get USB to parallel cables and I have found this to work.
