Recntly developed this behaviour on my 2k Bora, 2.0 Petrol.

Under acceleration, around 2200-2500rpm I hit a flat spot.

Car really struggles to pull through it.

Drop a gear and it picks it up as you'd expect.

Seems to be the same in all gears.

It sounds similar to the threads on the TDi's here, but obviously no turbo and no wastegate.

Anyone had similar or know what this is likely to be?

Cheers

Could be your MAF (mass air flow sensor). Other than that I have no idea. Try disconnecting the MAF (on the inlet plastic tubing) and if the car is no worse or even slightly worse, thats your culprit. Also if you could get the codes read using VAG software this might identify other culprits.

could be a coil pack on its way out... common on the 2.0 and 1.8T..

Your best getting it onto VAG-COM, getting the faults codes and reporting back!!

OK folks, here's what we found.Put VAG com on, 6 logged faults.2 lean fueling one on each bank. 2 misfires.1 misfire on 11 misfire on 4.Logged faults, started up drove off, same symptoms.Pulled over, disconnected MAF to run on default map.Problem gone, a little rough under 1500rpm due to no MAF.So who thinks my MAF sensor needs replacing? :-oHope this info is useful?Off to hunt for MAF sensors now.Cheers

Update:

Took MAF out and cleaned it with electrical cleaning solution. Replaced it. No difference whatsoever. Disconnected it, ran better, slightly rough below 1500 rpm. Struggled when cold.

Got a new MAF from GSF, fitted it today. Good as new. No flat spots, no misfiring at all. Took a small run round town to make sure everything was fine, then a 50 mile trip local roads and some motorwayt o check out all gears.

I wasn't aware that the genuine Bosch part is an exchange part. Got charge £90 with a £25 refund on return of old MAF.

Thanks all for your help with this one.

Cheers.

I think i have a similar problem!!
Hello guys. i'm new to this site as well as to vw cars.
I bought a vw bora 4motion about 4 months ago. It always had a problem with lagging in power over 4000 revs(like almost missfiring) but now its got a bit more frequent, in the morning particular.
I took it to the local garage and we did the following so far:
Changed ignition coil- no difference
changed maf - no difference

I then took it to a friend who has a vag-com system and these were the findings:
VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-US

Chassis Type: 1J - VW G/J/B Mk4
Scan: 01,02,03,08,16,15,17,19,22,35,46,56

The first error seems to be particularly interesting (error - 16485)
but i have changed the maf already, so I'm not sure what else could be
the cause. I would really appreciate any light shed on this, before i make
the dreaded trip down to the the extortionate vw dealers.
Thanks in advance!
