Mainly the auto (http://www.audi-forums.com/#) tranny feels awkward when it shifts. It just shifts at wierd rpms sometimes upshifting too soon. It shifts smooth, but definitely doesnt seem right. So I find it has 1 code. P1613. I am assuming this has somthing to do twith the tranny. It say it a MIL fault B+. I dont even know where to begin with this. Nobody seems to have a solid aswer as to how to fix this. Some people say to possibly replace the TCM?

Other than that the car is great, runs quiet and engine is smooth. the car has 127,00 miles. Last service was recorded at 90K. A new cylinder head (http://www.audi-forums.com/#) was installed along with all fluids and whatnot at the dealership. Ima try to make some time tomorrow to get under the car and check all connections at tranny Please help me out if possible, thanks

Hi IS300geT,

I came a across this which may point you in the right direction:-

http://ebahn.bentleypublishers.com/AUDI/B/B5/S4/

It seems to suggest a Transmission Control Module related error

You may need to modify the search to get the right engine code etc

Sorry, got a bit carried away with the link. Try the following to find your correct car specs:-

First thing to do with this sort of fault is change the auto box oil and filter.

Make sure you use the correct oil, not ordinary dextron, or the box changes at the wrong times.

Oil on auto's should be changed every 40K, there is no such thing as sealed for life, unless you only want a box to have a short life that is

Ok so how do I change it... I didnt see a dipstick in the engine bay for the tranny... The funky *** engine code went away so im not worried about that anymore. Just the fact that the tranny shifts all funky. Ive noticed it likes to hang in 4th stuck around like 4k for awhile before itll decide to shift itself.

So yeah I am definitely set on changing the fluid. I allready got new factory plugs, air filter, and engine oil filter. I want this thing tip top shape. I still have to clean the maf when I get some torx+ drivers.

Jack car in the air, and support well - must be level.

Remove 17mm allen screw from auto box ( This is the fill up hole - it can be very tight)

Remove the drain screw from box, and drain out the oil

Fill the box through the filler hole.

Run engine and keep checking level, while monitoring gearbox temperature via vag-com

when oil temp is 45 degrees, hold gearbox in each gear for 5 seconds. (R will cause oil to leak out)

With box in netural with engine on top up oil level and replace 17mm allen screw.

You can find guides with pictures on the forum

Make sure you use the correct oil, made by esso, or genuine audi. - Not dextron

I've heard that the drain plugs can be a real pain to remove. If it's particularly stubborn a suitably sized nut, carefully "tack welded" to the plug may give you a chance to get a spanner to it. The plug will obviously need replacing anyway. Best of Luck !

Nice thanks for the help guys. Atleast I know that I can change it. So I have to use the vag-com for this? I cant just fill it, switch gears a few times, then add some more and not be good?
