Could this just be a new fuse required...if so any idea how I identify the fuse on the fuse card...

It doesn't seem obvious by the pictures........

I think that it could be the switching unit in the keylock on the door that is going/gone.
My 99 Bora is suffering the same problem, but has progressed a little since.
1)Buzzer doesn't sound when the lights are left on.
2)The interior lights don't come on when the drivers door is opened. Whereas if I open the Passagner door they do come on.
3)If I unlock the car from the passanger side using the key the interior lights come on, don't do so from the drivers.
4) Now the latch on the drivers door is acting up, some thimes i have to slam it 2 0r 3 times to close it.
All this leads me to think that the lock and swithch are a combined unit, I read on one of there forums that the switch is quite tricky to replace, an involves removing door trim for a start.

Let me know how you get on, I won't be fixing mine before the new year.

Richard.

Yes, get a workshop/repair manual as the microswitch in the lock might be faulty. The solder joints often break and will give the mentioned symptoms !

This is for a Passat but the Golf will be similar: http://www.taligentx.com/passat/maintenance/doorlockmechanism/
