Has anyone changed a gaiter for their mk4?

When re-using the plastic surround at the base of the dash did you manage to prise the lip of the plastic up (the smaller lip towards the front of the car not nearest the handbrake) to squash the new gaitor underneath? or have you left the new gaitor overhang freely?

I'm contemplating letting it hang but would rather have it how its meant to be so i'm wondering if anyone has managed to remove this piece (and still be able to re-use it) or has used a flat headed screwdriver (or other impliment) without causing any damage to get that snug fit.

It is a 1 piece gaitor..... unless you have an aftermarket one on.

I' think it's about £15 / £20 quid from VW direct....

It is one piece but you can make it a two piece if you want to just change the gaitor. you pull the gaitor up over the gear knob and you will see a metal clip just remove that and the gear knob will come off then just pull the gator from the gearknob as the clip is very tight that holds it together. once you have it removed the clip becomes loose so you can use it again to fit your new gaitor. hope this helps
