Has anyone replaced their Eagle F1 OEM tyres with anything else - and if so what is your findings on noise, tyre wear, grip etc?

What size of tyre are we talking about and what makes you ask? Just got my 4.2TDi on 21" dunlops but as I am in the trade may be able to help you with some answers.;)

I am currently on 275/45 VR 20 110Y Goodyear F1.

I was interested to know if Audi has chosen a particular tyre to demonstrate the performance capability of the Q7 through its particular tyre choice and also to ensure a low noise level. If so is there an equivalent tyre but at a reasonable price (about £100 or so) - since I, like many other Q7 owners, will be looking to change them every 10k miles or so.

What else works as well and last longer and is around £100?

I DONT THINK YOU WILL FIND A BRANDED TYRE MUCH LESS THAN 150.00 + VAT WITH 110Y AS LOAD AND SPEED RATING:mad:

True - I have just replaced a rear with an Eagle F1 - £180 in VAT and fitting.

I replaced mine with Hankook Ventus.

Much cheaper and no noticeable difference in grip or noise...

(I did 30k miles on the Goodyear F1's and have done 20k on the Hankook's and they have more than half the tread still left)

IF YOU HAVE REPLACED THEM WITH HANKOOK YOU HAVE JUST DOWNGRADED YOUR VEHICLE AND YOUR INSURANCE MAY ALSO BE VOID. HANKOOK ONLY MANUFACTURE 106V. V=>149MPH Y=>186MPH 106=950KG 110=1060KG:aargh4:

regardless Of Whether You Drive A Mini Or A Rolls Royce You Should Never Reduce The Speed Rating Or The Load Index Of The Original Fitment To The Vehicle.;)

So why do mine state 109 Y on them then?

109 = 1030kg
110 = 1060kg

I could **** 30kg after a good curry....

....and to the left of your keyboard there is a caps lock key, try pressing it...

yours are obviously 255/55r18 and that is the extra load marking for that size and thanks for pointing out that button thought it was something to do with baseball cap so pressed it cos i thought that was cool.:beerchug:

Speed Symbol "V" For vehicles with a speed capability not exceeding 150 mph

CAR: Audi Q7 3.0TDI
PERFORMANCE: Max Speed 134mph

And this was done by a major national tyre chain...

...as they say - "it's not what you drive its how you drive"....:D

...but back tyres - I am guessing that Audi choose a tyre from a range of available tyres and the tyre they selected fits a range of cars. So - 110Y versus 109V may be a tyre choice in the range.

So - as a tyre dealer you would know what that range is? or should I just check with Audi?

Thanks for the file - very useful.

Another question for you: I had my tracking checked (usual complaint of edge wear on front tyres) first by Audi - all OK, second by tyre company when replacing my punctured rear - very much out. Why would this be? And do you have the official Audi figures for tracking etc?

I would also be interested in your opinion on tyre pressures - the petrol cap data tells me 35psi all round (275/45 VR20) but the handbook recommends setting the pressures nearer the max for full loading at all times!!

I have set mine to 39/40psi all round and the wear rate on the edges appears to be better - to be expected I am guessing since there is no less pressure on the edges - though the ride is a bit harder - any comment on tyre pressure?

sorry not got wheel alignment data but as regards your query on pressures too little pressure would cause wear to both edges and too high would cause wear in the centre of the tyre.

Sportingmac

That was my theory - I think the guideline pressures are too low so I have set mine 5psi higher. However - it's still the outside edge that wears before any other area - so I guess that Audi have a setting or two wrong somewhere.

Let me know if you get the settings from Audi :beerchug:

the outer edge will always wear badly on most large vehicles with power steering due to the turning circle of the vehicle and lightness of the steering.

Hi Sleach
Bought collected my 4.2TDi S Line last june, I think the had Eagles on them. After 6k miles, I noticed that the outer edge was wearing badly and the tyre in general was badly worn. I was quoted £249.00 inc. per tyre. They have been replaced F.O.C. by my local Audi dealer (who have been brilliant) by Continental Grosscontact 275/45/20. These are a little noisier but I am told by the dealer principal tha they last longer and are what Audi are now fitting to their new Q7 4.2. I have never heard of this particular tyre and would be interested in your views.

By the way, absolutely stunning car!!

not sure as to what make they are currently fitting in that size.Continental are certainly equivalent to the goodyear you had as to whether you will get better mileage remains to be seen, I would think similar. Need to get some pics of mine got it at easter but not in imola yellow its in sprint blue like the RS4.Absolutely loving it.

Odd thing happening on my tyre situation - since I took it into Audi for an alignment check the outer edge wear rate appears to have abated - now done a further 3500 miles since and very little wear since - mmmhhh. No problems found with the alignment apparently. So here's hoping I make it to Italy and back next month on the current set of tyres - if so then we are looking at 15k on originals.

Also - anyone tested or have an opinion on Vredestein SUV Sessanta XL?

Very interesting! I had a wheel alignment check done by Audi FOC at the first service (12500). Before the service the front tyres were wearing perfectly straight (they were replaced at 6500 miles when I got the car). After the alignment check they started wearing the edges. After I complained Audi checked the alignment again and made some more adjustments. The situation is no better and I'll be into a new set of fronts after 8000 miles of tame driving (my wife uses the car). Just doesn't sound right to me. Anyone got any good contacts who know what they are doing on the alignment. Audi doent seem to have a clue.
