Has anyone heard if there are any more engines in the pipeline for the new S-Line? Dealer contacted me yesterday ref the S-Line - told him that I would prefer to wait for the equivilent of the B7 2.0T FSI - dealer said that this had been replaced with the current 1.8T

Was just curious if anyone had heard anything about future engines around the 2.0T area?

Don't believe him. He just wants to flog you a 1.8T!

Have read that further engines will become available later on this year. I don't believe they won't put the 200 bhp 2.0 Turbo in (or maybe even a slightly higher-powered version - they do the same engine wih 230 bhp and even up to 270!)

If you search for a4 2.0 TFSI on google you will find a recent report about the B8 for the US market, with a new 2.0TFSI with 211bhp and masses of torque. Must come here as well surely. We'll just have to be patient.

It will come!
In many ways it's the ideal engine. Not too big that you'll get too stung by the taxman but with enough power to satisfy the keener driver for whom 150/170 bhp just isn't quite enough.

When it comes I'll probably get one.

Thanks for the info. Dealer emailed me today again pushing the 1.8T S Line - me thinks someone is under pressure to meet end of month/quarter targets ;)

Think I will join you and wait it out for the larger engine!

I've just stumbled upon this (http://www.audi.ie/audi/ie/en2/new_cars/a4/saloon_new/standard_equipment.html) page on Audi's Irish site.
It mentions two new power outputs for the 2.0tdi and two power outputs for a 2.0TFSI.

"A4 B8 2.0TFSI 180BHP, A4 B8 2.0TFSI 211BHP,
A4 B8 2.0TDI 170BHP"

I wonder if the info is on this page by accident, as the engines aren't mentioned on the rest of the site.

It looks like its accidental as it says standard equiptment included:

DSP sound system
Colour DIS system

which are standard on all new se a4s, me thinks its refering to the B7 A4.

Well, it could be referring to the B7 but that didn't product 211 bhp did it? Wasn't it only 197?

The 2.0 Turbo 211 bhp engine is NOT mentioned on that website under the engines heading, so it could be they have included it on the page you've highlighted it a little too early and it's coming later this year?

Yes, I think it's definately the B8. The stuff about the colour DIS etc is misleading as the Irish spec cars are different to UK spec. Presumably the engines will be the same though.

To me the inclusion of a 180bhp version of the the 2.0 TFSI is a blow, as it inevitably means the 211bhp version will be more expensive than it would have otherwise been if it was the next step up from the 1.8TFSI. I had been hoping the 211bhp engine might have been about 24,000 in SE saloon form, but I think the 180bhp will probably sell for that with the 211bhp at ~25,500?

Does anyone know when the 2.0tdi 170bhp might be released, my dealer says it might never be, as it would render the 2.7tdi 190bhp obsolete???

On the B7 the 170bhp tdi was offered with a manual transmission only, and the 2.7tdi with automatic transmission only. I see no technical reason for this, so must assume it was marketing to differentiate the two engines. Probably do the same for the B8?

I have no idea when it will be released though.

170 tdi is due June/July for ordering - the dealers know nothing, this forum knows more....

Hello. This is my 1st post. Does anyone know if/when a manual gearbox 2.0 litre diesel quattro version of the A4 B8 S-Line TDI Avant will be available? I'm told at the moment that the only diesel engine to offer quattro is the 3 litre one (which, I'd guess will get clobbered by the tax man over the next few years).

thanks

This week's 'Auto Express' has a feature on the new A4 Avant (on sale in May), and the model featured is actually described as a 2.0 TFSI for 27250!

In the body of the article it says that the 2.0 TFSI turbo petrol engine will be available from October this year with 177 or 208 bhp and diesel-rivalling torque!

I'm looking forward to it already!

i think they will have a 2.0T round about 200bhp, they do not want a engine at this price level to suppress the 3.2 V6, anything above got to be a new S4 or a RS4.....

Yes, it does, but that refers to the diesels. I was referring to the petrol engines which this thread is mainly interested in! Further on down from what it says about the diesels it says that "(the diesel) sounds less clattery than the 2.0 TFSI petrol. The latter, which is available from October, will be offered with 177bhp or 208bhp. It also promises plenty of pace, with diesel-rivalling torque available from low revs."

It looks pricey initially, but of course this is the S-line. That would put a 180ps SE saloon at about 23,500. Much more reasonable!

I'm not 100% convinced about the accuracy of their facts though - they say the 170ps 2.0TDI has a combined fuel consumption of 40.5mpg. That can't be right surely, that's worse than the 190ps 2.7.

It does look pricey. It would seem to refer the 2.0 TFSI 177bhp Avant S-Line, but how can they quote a price so accurately when it won't even be available until October 2008 (in Germany?) or maybe even early next year? Have Audi released a price for a model they don't acknowledge knowing anything about in the UK?!

Hi,

I guess Audi will wait until they have sorted out all the current issues with the 2.0TDi 170 before releasing it in the B8... lets just say a "contact" who works for Audi is spending a lot of his day working on the B7 2.0TDi 170 on known issues...

Am thinking of going for a 2.7d multitronic S-line but am wondering what price difference to a 2.0d 170bhp with auto would be ? Any thoughts. Also anyone know what the colour in the autoexpress pictures is ?

It seems to be getting more confusing. I just read a road test of an Avant in Top Gear magazine where it stated that there is due to be a 208hp 2.0 diesel available in October. The road test was supposed to be a 170hp 2.0 tdi and apparently there is going to be a lower powered version as well as the current one. If these two higher powered variants are available with multitronic surely the 2.7 will be redundant? I'm about to order an S line Avant but not sure whether to hold on a few more months and see if any of this comes true.

Looks to me like Top Gear are getting confused with the 208 bhp 2.0 Turbo Petrol coming out in October and they have erroneously said it's a diesel. I don't believe there's a 208 bhp diesel coming as well.

I did wonder that - the whole review seemed a bit disjointed. The 208 figure was a bit of a give away. Still, I could live with a 170 multitronic if that option is available.

I have read in several sources (both online and paper) that Audi is working on powerful 2.0TDI, it will get 2 turbos (like BMW's one), one smaller to provide some boost at lower RPMs on which people are usually cruising, and one bigger to provide decent boost at higher RPMs when you are speeding up. Power figure was about 200hp (204?), torque - 400Nm (170hp version has 350Nm, 140 - 320). But it was for TT, I wanted it for A4 but doubt they will put it there - too many TDIs, and yes - it kills 2.7TDI. Maybe 2.7TDI will be discontinued soon?

Whatever they are doing, they have got to be thinking about uber low emission engines. Company car buyers must be very tempted with BMW's current diesel engine range. I certainly was.

I was hoping that the new A4 would have such an engine, but obviously not.:(

Audi's German website lists the following new engines now for the new A4:

2.0 TFSi petrol 6 speed manual - 132 kW (180 PS) Euros 30900/32810 depending on trim

2.0 TFSi multitronic all as above but for Euros 33050/35000

2.0 TFSi 6 speed manual - 155 kW (211 PS) Euros 33500/35450

2.0 TFSi quattro 6 speed - as above but Euros 35800/37800

2.0 TDI 6 speed manual - 125 kW (170 PS) Euros 32200/34150

2.7 TDI 6 speed manual - 140 kW (190 PS) Euros 34800/36100

But whilst they are in the catalogue/price list they are not in the configurator so they may not actually be available yet. But they are coming!

There was a mention in last week's 'Autocar' that the A4 will now be available with "a new, lower-power version of the 2.0 TDi engine that emits just 134g/km of CO2" and - this is the one I've been waiting for! - "A high-torque version of Audi's 2.0 TFSi petrol is also on offer." I understand that this is the 211 bhp version. Just right for the A4 if you're a petrol-head!

Good afternoon all - first post here so please go easy on me!

I am considering purchasing a nearly new B8 2.7 TDi A4 Avant Automatic S-Line (Multitronic to be precise). Having test driven the car, I was very impressed, but have heard talk of a new 2.0 TDi (Auto) soon to be released which would have 170 bhp and effectively make the 2.7li obsolete?

This thread has helped but is now 12 months old. Any more recent news on this development as I don't want to be left with an issue which I could have researched more pre-purchase.

Thanks in advance - excellent forum.

As I thought - see my original post; I am seeking an Auto so manual (i.e. the 2.0 Tdi quattro) not an option in the first place.
