Hi folks
Just became new member and I am looking for help already, have 52 plate Superb Classic TDI (100 bhp) with 140,000 mls on clock my problem is temp guage starts to rise from 90 on guage up to 110 when temp outside gets above about 10 degrees as shown on in car display, putting on heater lowers guage back to normal in a couple of minutes, have changed thermostat, water pump and also had car on diagnostic check where we changed electric fan, engine been flushed with approved flusher and radiator was changed approx 2 1/2 years ago, contacted Skoda who said to take car to my main agent and they would investigate, can't afford mortgage, anyone out there had problem or heard of it, any suggestions would be greatfully received as both my mechanic and autospark almost at end of there tether with me.

Thanks for listening:beerchug:

Hi taximan20 , that sounds like a circulation problem to me or the lack of circulation to be exact! this could be for a number of reasons eg (a) a faulty water pump (b) air lock (c) blocked radiator . It is possible the rad could be blocked again! I found these systems need multiple or thorough flushing to get all the gunk out espeacially if an oil cooler has burst its banks! Im doubting its an electrical fault if the temp drops to normal after the heater is turned on! Hope this is of some help. Ps just in case check the viscous fan as these can fail on high mileage models! The electric fan on these cars is only for a/c or emergency engine cooling.

Im just re thinking this problem. Can you establish if the engine is actually overheating eg use an infra red thermometer to measure both hoses to the radiator? Also view mvbs on diagnostics and compare temp readings from ecu to the readings your infra thermo gives! Now how long does it take the car to heat up to the normal running temp (90deg) eg 3-4 miles or half an hour idling? And final question for now are you sure the cooling system is free from airlocks? Note there is a speacial procedure for bleeding these cars ; your mechanic should know how. If not Ill pm you the details.

Given me lots to think about, have dealt with 2 different "mechanics" (and I don't mean fitters) both of whom I know have been in business quite some time, 1 has trained on diesel engines for about 20 years and other is somewhat of an "Audi - Volkswagen " specialist both of whom are scratching their heads but where might I get infra red thermometer and yes I would like details on your way of getting rid of any airlocks, at moment it can take up to 4-5 miles in morning to get car up to normal temperature, 2day being an example car was at running temp for at least 90 mins then had hire on motorway 5 mins on motorway at approx 58 - 65 mph and guage starts rising 5 mins idling at airport back on to motorway never above 60 and no probs. I am only talking about 5 - 6 miles on motorway here rest of day in and about Glasgow no probs
Like to hear your thoughts

Any good garage should have an infrared thermo or you can buy one at a motor factors but its hardly worth while for just one job! For bleeding any air out of the system park the car on a slope facing upward. Fit an extension filler in the coolant bottle , start engine and get some one to run engine between 1500 - 2000 rpm for a few seconds while you loosen one of the hoses( the one with the bleeder hole) from the heater matrix (in the plenum chamber). Make sure to keep coolant topped up and this should rid the sytem of any air. Good luck
Ps do this with a cold to warm engine to be on the safe side!
