Hi folks
I'm having some probs changing gear on my mk4. Specifically I keep getting 1st gear when trying to get reverse, although my wife has had problems with other gears. Could this be the selector? If so how difficult/expensive is it to fix?
if not the selector any ideas what else it could be?
Appreciate your advice :beerchug:

Are you having probs similar to myself??
I have a golf mk4 gtitdi (standard 2003, I initially had problems with slight clutch slippage in high gears like 5th and then eventually other probs like the clutch pedal sticking to the floor at high speeds with me having to drag it up with my feet. I ended up putting in a new flywheel clutch and replacing all the cylinder (master cylinder and slave release bearing) which cost me an arm and a leg over £600+. Now the clutch is not slipping and the pedal does not stick to the floor (although the clutch pedal feels a bit light). However, now when im in 1st gear or reverse and stationary i cannot get out of the gear whilst the car is stationary, the only way to get it out of 1st gear or reverse is to get the car moving and let the clutch pedal up normally and then clutch in again and then it allows me to change gears. Basically when stationary i cant get out of 1st gear or reverse without moving, it feels like the clutch is attaching and failing to disengage. Im just getting fustrated spending more and more, anyone with any ideas of what the problem could be?? is it the clutch? or gearbox?? all other gears are fine and the problem is intermittant it only seems to happen after about half an hour of driving it is normal in the 1st half hour then the problem occurs.
