:1zhelp: Hi all i have a 1996 Audi A4 1.9tdi which has done 77'000 miles and i am having to turn the engine over at least 2 to 3 times to start the car i have owned the car a couple of months and i bought it off my brother so i know the service history is all up to date but my brother did say that the central locking vacuum pump was changed the one fitted was a d and the one that went in was an f he thinks this may have something to do with it even though the mechanic who did the job told him it did not make a difference sorry if this is a daft question but i am new to Audi's and diesels but am a total convert now,any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Replace glow plugs+ relay and dont worry about the pump, does nothing to the engine ! Good luck.

Replace glow plug's power supply relay and see if it improves. Also with a multimeter check the resistance of the glow plugs. Remove one and see how it looks, badlly burned will need replaced. you need to look at a new one to see the difference.
