I have a 52 plate A4 Avant. I have had a problem with vibration at motorway speeds (only in 6th gear) for a few months now. Its has been in and out of an Audi specialist garage on several occasions. They have done a few things to it including replacing the crank shaft (i think - forgive me my technical knowledge is not good!!) and meesing about with some liquid mix??? I have also had the front tryres balanced and the tracking checked.

It does seem that the tyres need balanced every time i go to kwik fit (about 1 once a month at the moment) I also got the tracking sorted a couple of months back and yesterday i was told by kwik fit it needed to be done again. A couple fo months ago Kiwk fit discovered the two front tyres were wearing badly on the outer edge - so bad they needed replaced, they had done about 5000 miles.

When the local garage did some work on the crank shaft the problem did seem to get better - but not for too long. Now i feel like I am back where i started - only quite a bit poorer!!! The local specialist gargage is now suggesting its a gear box issue which could cost £5000+ to sort. I am not convinced.

I have booked it in to my local main Audi dealership this week to see if they can find the problem.

Has anyone any idea what this could be? Sorry if i am not explaining myself too well but if you want any more info just ask!

Many thanks in advenace.
