Have just cleaned MAF to try to eliminate missing isssue and flat spots. ABS and ESP not functioning. Have read on another thread that disconecting MAF will cut off ABS. Why? Is the ABS wire routed through here? Should I just be looking for a poor contact or is something bigger going on here?

drive train will register faults in abs and engine management.I am onlyback on the site tonight but if you post a vagcom fault log i will see it from work on monday and may be able to help.Plese post engine number and year

airmass values will be to low hence multiplication fueltrim faults stored bank 1 lambda and bank 2.fuel trim should be +/- 10 %.Check for any air leaks on the vacuum pipes and replace the airmass.goto engine elctrics and check measured value block 002 Specified value
600...820 rpm
14.0...24.0 %
1.0...5.0 ms injection period
3.5...7.0 g/s airmass values
if you are seeing anything outside these values(especially below 3.5g/s at idle then i would suspect airleak/airmass or a very dirty throttle body.Readapt the throttle body via basic setting group 060.

0 g/s airmass! faulty sensor or bad connection? any way of testing the sensor eg measuring resistance between any of its terminals etc or measuring voltages on the 5 terminals of the connector or is it simply a case of buying new sensor and seeing?

Disconnect airmass and check supply voltage at pin 2 and engine earth(battery voltage should be found)check the earth by connecting multimeter accross 2,3 and crank the engine(battery voltage should be found).Check pin 3 of air mass to 27 of ecu for resistance max 1.5 ohms also 4 and 53 5 and 29 the same and check for shorts to each other.Pin 5 is the signal wire and if there were fluctuating readings in measured value block this is the wire to check. So if battery voltage ok and no resistance issues then the air mass is flucked.

Thanks for that info and yep, guess what, sensor had it. Replacement on order.
