intermittent slugish car

I have a 1999 Audi A4 1900 TDI 110 that runs like a dream most of the time but occassionally it seems to loose power slowing down considerably and losing the pick up . I know it sounds stupid ,but if I switch off the ignition while still driving and restart it goes back to normal .
Has anybody got an idea of how to fix this

Welcome to the forum. there is lots on this forum about your issue, it sounds like limp mode and it could be the MAF. get it fault read.
