Newbie wants to know how

Hey people, i've had my mk5 golf TDi for a couple of months now. i've read about this vag com thing and was wondering what sort of stuff i can do with it. i've not got a trip computer. i'd like to use my computer as the interface but not sure what i need. anyone got some advice for me.
