quiet tyres

iam looking to replace the tyres on my 2.0tdi at the moment i have dunlop sp 01 sport 215 55 16. the dunlops feed back a lot of road noise. so iam looking for advice on quieter tyres Has any one any advice on this subject.

Haven`t tried the Dunlops, but have had Michelins, Bridgetones and Continentals. I don`t think the problems necessarily the tyres, the car just seems noisier than the old ones...............

Goodyear Excellence are thought to be the quietest, but it's very subjective. I've just looked on another forum where someone recommends Michelin Primacy and another recommends Dunlop SP01...!

a lot of the noise is down to the road surface rather than the tryes, have a listen next time you are out.

a lot of the noise is down to the road surface rather than the tryes, have a listen next time you are out.That is of course true, but it is down to the tyre and how much of that noise it transmits to the car through the body, directly and indirectly - in addition to the noise that the tyre itself generates.

Yes, I replaced the Bridgestones with the Primacy and found a great improvement, although at a greater cost. Mileage looks better too.

I've got some Maxxis Z1s - budget, to be honest, but quiet and good wet/dry grip....

My 2.0 TDI Sport came with Pirelli P Zero Rossos. Not bad but they whine on certain good surfaces. Fronts were shot at 15k, rears will do 40k (but not the one that picked up an irreparable puncture last Friday :( ). Replacement Primacy HPs looking good for 25k and are much quieter, just a very faint rumble on good surfaces.

These comments relate 235/45 17s which are wider and have stiffer sidewalls than the size aaman needs so I would expect even less noise than I get.

The Primacys were £130 a corner all in, Rossos would have been £105. I shopped around and got the dealer to match internet prices. 215/55s should come in significantly cheaper. An internet search will find several on-line suppliers and you may find a you're near one of their fitters.

i'm getting 50k out of my Dunlop SP01 Sports. Then again I only Motorway travel... As for noise... I have the music up quite loud so that never really plays a part in my decision...

Mine came with Bridgestone Turanza ER300 215/55 on 16" Alloys. I find them very quiet & perform well in all conditions, seem to get good reviews as an all-round touring tyre.

I will definitely be trying something else, possibly the same as jtw's.

I replaced my Pirelli P Zero Rossos on my 2.0 TDI SPORT with Good Year Eagle F1's, wear on these is very favorable when compared to the original P Zeros and Continentals i've had on other cars.
Road noise is reduced from the P Zeros too, cost wise I picked these up for £103 fitted from local tyre dealer.
