Hi there,

I've got a Audi TT 225, 2001 on a X Reg, Done 43k, FSH.

But its been a year since the last service and it's due one now but what needs doing?

Does it need a Cambelt and Timing Belt doing?

From what I've gathered, It needs:

Oil
Oil Filter
Air Filter
Brake Fluid

Cambelt*
Timing Belt*

Not sure about the last two...
Its never had the cambelt or timing belt changed before...I know the cambelt change is every 60k but i'm not sure if it should be changed when its a certain age ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Hi Kaz
The service required depends on the milage.
The basic service is completed at 10,000 miles and is oil and filter, plus a visual check of the underside. Check fault memories. re-set service indicator
At 20,000 the service is oil,oil filter pollen filter and a visual check of the underside. Additionally the Haldex(rear differential) oil is changed.
At 30,000 miles - as the 10,000 mile service.
At 40,000 miles it is as the 20,000 mile service plus the Air filter and the spark plugs. The haldex oil and filter is changed.
Every two years the brake fluid should be changed. The cambelt should be changed at 115,000 miles. Audi do not stipulate a cambelt change based on time. However, VW recommend changing the cambelt after four years if the milage has not been achieved.
If you are changing the cam belt change the water pump at the same time. The bearings can collapse and the impeller can break causing engine overheating.
Be carefull when getting this job done there is a set time for the job and some audi specialists are charging more than the dealers. Shop around

Hope this helps

Cheers mate !!

That helped a mill.

I'm going to do the 40k service so:
Oil
Oil Filter
Air Filter
Rear Dif Oil
Spark Plugs
Brake Fluid

I'm going to take a look at the cambelt and see if i can see any wear and then decide whether to change it...And if i do, I'm going to do the waterpump too!

But another quick question, do audi and vw use the same cambelts in their cars?

I'm getting mine done off a mate...he serviced my Golf (cambelt, timing belt, spark plugs, sir filter, oil, oil filter) Done the brakes (discs and pads) MOT'd it for £200 and does a top job...

He'll probably charge me more on the TT but i know hes going to do a top job as he has audi/vw/bmw/merc specialists working for him!

Cheers

Just spoke to Audi and they recomended that the cambelt be changed every 80k or 5 years...
Mines been on for 7 so difinitly getting it changed.
Just got a quote for £200 labour to do the:
Oil
Oil Filter
Air Filter
Spark Plugs
Brake Fluid
Rear Diff Oil
Cambelt
Waterpump

And parts are around £130...

Is that a good price?

Hi Kaz,
Just read this so thought I'd relate my experience here.

I have a LHD 225TT year 2000 (bought in the UK but used in Spain).
Audi here showed me in their service records that it's only recommended by milesage!! However having said that the belts to dry out and crack with age (not just usage) and they recommended changing the timing belt btween 5-7 years. I change mine last summer.
Mine is very low mileage 67 k (kms) (I only do about 4 k per year but I love it).

Anyhow to do the whole timing belt thing they did all the water pump etc with the kit and cost me 900Euros /(we pay about 80Euros / hour for labour here). Here I don't know the market well enough to to let anyone at my car so only trusted audi - but it was quite a big job.

Hope this helps.

I forget prices exactly, but the 1.8T ideally needs the cambelt and waterpump changed after 40,000 miles or either 4 or 5 years of age.
