Wow...just read some of the posts on the leaky roof seals on the Eos....having had a number of cabs over the past few years (MX5 ,E30 cabby ,Z3) it is a problem I can associate with!!
A good tip for leaking seals is to spray them with silicone lubricant (can get it from *********). It appears to swell the rubber a bit and thus prevents leaks...has worked successfully for all my cabs and tends to last for at least a couple of months per application!

Hope this helps...it certainly won't do any harm.

Not sure about not doing any harm. There is a proper VW treatment for the seals. I got a treatment pack supplied free with my car. You can buy a bottle of the stuff from VW but it ain't cheap.

Have read elsewhere that you must not under any circumstances use silicon for the roof seals!

You're supposed to use DuPont Krytox, available in small bottles for a small fortune from VW dealers (although it's not labelled Krytox as it's got a VW part number, but it's the same stuff).

Fair do's...must be a special rubber on the seals ?but as I say it is quite a well known fix for 'normal' cabs but not worth invalidating your warranties as it sems likely it will be something that will be looked at some point??
BTW dupont krytox is a kind of silicone lubricant

My dealer refused to sell me Krytox saying that there was no need as the seals will be treated as part of routine servicing.

That's not good. I got mine direct from the parts department, just quoted the part number.

Please can someone advise me what to do? I bought an EOS late last year and have been plagued with a leaking roof, just above the drivers seat. I have had no satisfaction with the local dealership who asked me, 'where did i think the roof water would go?' I work as a community midwife and need regular access to both my boot and my back seat and the water POURS into both areas. Am ready to scream and am contemplating rejecting the car, as previous attempts to rectify a boot leak and window leak have been unsuccessful. I need a permanent solution for both boot and roof leaks. Please help!!:1zhelp:

Not sure what to say really. The dealer is being extremely unhelpful and comments like 'where did i think the roof water would go?' are laughable and pretty insulting to you.

Is it a new EOS (so under a year old) ? On a new car it shouldn't be a seal problem that would respond to seal lubrication but perhaps misaligned panels or somesuch. Could you get it to a different dealer for investigation ? You could perhaps try contacting VW to see what they can suggest.

Only use special VW lubricant G 052 172 A2 (£43 for 100ml) or else the seals can become damaged which can cause the roof to jam.

The best alternative for the genuine Krytox is einszett's Gummi Pflege Stift. It's essentially the same kind of lubricant, also made in germany but much cheaper. Check out the rave reviews on amazon Amazon.com: einszett 914806 'Gummi Pflege Stift' Rubber Care Stick - 3.4 fl. oz: Automotive (http://www.amazon.com/einszett-914806-Gummi-Pflege-Rubber/dp/B004B8GTQG/) and this one How to Lubricate Volkswagen EOS Roof to Prevent and Fix Water Leak (http://www.custompcguide.net/how-to-lubricate-volkswagen-eos-roof-to-prevent-and-fix-water-leak/)

The genuine stuff - Krytox, is available at much less than dealer prices if you search t'interweb thingy. It comes in bottles and as a spray.

I never saw a hint of it used on a dealer service on my wife's 2007 Eos, but my local Indy does a tremendous job spraying it just about anywhere and rubbing it in as appropriate. Anyone living in or near South Yorkshire - go and see Matt at Autohaus Dolby. They specialise in old air-cooled stuff but will tackle any VW job and the quality of workmanship was excellent.

One final thought - Eos roofs were notoriously leaky until early 2007 when there was a design change on the seals, improving things massively. But anyone who leaves a convertible, even a tin top Eos, outside in the cold weather for frost and ice to attack the seals or 6" of snow to sit on top almost deserves to get leaks. Put it in the garage or buy a Golf saloon.

Excellent, just what I was looking for.....and duly ordered from Amazon. Looks like I'll be helping my niece clean the Eos I helped her find back in the spring!! Thank you.

I've seen these 'stick' products (there's a Würth one as well) and with my recent experience of having treated EOS seals you need to be able to get to various angles and in to tight spaces plus you need to be able to work it down between the seals between the roof side sections and the back roof panel. The stick is probably great for door seals where you can get at them all round just by opening the door.
To be honest for the sake of a few pounds to prevent leaks in a several £1000 car, go for the liquid Krytox, you'll get 2 or even 3 treatments for around £37.

We use the Würth rubber care stick on door seals and anything rubber we need to move smooothly.....

Oi, oi! I'm sure its SO smooth...

Still not sure how you'd use the stick to get to all the surfaces of all roof seals on an EOS whatever else its good at.

You have to park the roof in various different positions, personally I won't even open an Eos roof now since one tried to decapitate me....
