I have a 1999 golf gt tdi 110bhp.The problem is that it won't start when hot very well ( you have to wind it on abit). Have just changed the temp sensor which hasn't helped.Someone said it could be a valve (non return valve or checker valve) near the fuel pump in the return line??????

Right, just had a word with a collegue. This could be a number of thing that could cause this, a few suggestions he has made are, Has the car been read for fault codes, and have these been cleared? The diesel pump timing, if out could cause this? does it kick smoke out when started?

If you can elaborate a little on the fault, I can fax it over to him for a more detailed look.

The car starts alright in the morning but when warm (at running temp 90 degrees) and you stop and go to restart the engine, you have to turn it over a few times (as if there is no fuel in the system). VW are putting on a computer on friday.

The car has just had a recent ECU installed and the throttle body + sensor cleaned by VW (about a month ago) this is when the problem started.

It sounds like the dealers have not done somthing right:zx11: could be that they have not coded the ECU correct, or maybe the new ECU has a fault, rare, but does happen., Or they have not reset the throttle body correct.

If you are 100% sure the problem has developed since they did the work, I would pursue the dealer to rectify it. From my experiance working in dealers, start at the Service Manager, and if you still have no joy, the General Manager, then if all else fails VAG themselves.

I would wait and see what happens friday, then take it from there. In the mean time i will speak to my collegue again, and tell him what has been done.

vw have installed a blue temp sensor this time but still hasn't helped (as there was a green one in before). The car use to run at 90 degrees but now only runs at 80 degrees at normal temp (vw says this is ok as the fan is still kicking in alright and that this sensor is ok). They also said it has to go to a diesel specialist as they think air is getting into the system (as they see air bubbles going through the clear fuel line) They say no faults are coming up and the car is mechanically fine.

They told you to go to a diesel specialist LOL :biglaugh: what a bunch of muppets. Id go back down there and see the general manager and tell them that it only started doing this since they had it and therefore they should fix it.

My g/f's diesel Saxo  had a very very small hole in the fuel line and was letting air into the system, you could see it going down the clear fuel pipe. But her car wouldnt start at all and would just throw out a load of black smoke. So i would expect it not to start at all not just when hot........
