oil warning light!!
hi all...

i have a problem with my A4 2.6 Quattro 1996.

the oil warning light stays on virtually all the time, i say almost as sometimes it goes out whilst i,m driving then when stop and turn the ignition off and on again it comes back on, it only comes on when the revs go over 1500 yet if it goes undrer 1500 say at a traffic light it goes out then comes back on when the revs go back up.

i've had the oil changed with new filter but problem persists, oil level is fine. i'm thinking it cuold be a sensor problem, any ideas would be welcome.

thanks.

Hi Very foolish driving a car not knowing if it has or has no got oil pressure, you should get the pressure checked.

hi, how would you check the pressure ? is it something we can do ourselves ? or does it require some specialist stuff from a garage ?

Hi You remove the oil pressure switch and measure the pressure with an oil pressure gauge. If you have not got a gauge you could just replace the switch in the hope that it will cure the problem. But you really dont want to drive the car until you get it sorted out,it could turn out very expensive for you.

I own a 1996 Audi A4 Quatro with a 2.6 v-6 motor. I too suffer from an oil pressure light that is constantly coming on. I want to change the switch (which according to my repair manual should be on the oil filter housing). It isn't there. There is a note that it is on the side of the oil pan. I didn't see it. Where could it be?
