Hi,

I'm looking for a decent, independent Audi technician around Manchester - U.K. for servicing/repairs etc. Can anyone advise please?

Thanks in advance.

hi Starterman
i've just had my A8 4.2 engine rebuilt by a guy in chesterfield, i'd say about a hour from manchester & he did a great job, really knows his stuff. Pretty reasonable too.
It's Audi Dave @ his # is 01246 811271

Hi Stef,

Thanks for your reply and I'll give them a bell. What was the reason for the rebuild and do you mind me asking how much he charged for this - I'd be interested to know? Have you noticed the change in performance?

Cheers.:beerchug:

no worries
yeah had the unfortunate pleasure of a cambelt failure! :(
36 outta 40 valves bent
got most of my parts from jersey as i have family out there ( & no VAT!)
dave charged me £2850 to rebuild it with a few parts i'd missed out on
feels great now & shud last a good few miles! (hoping)

Not sure is you have already had a service but you could try Awesome GTI in Irlam they are independant VAG specialists and have done quite a lot of work on my A8, they were recommended to me. They own a huge impressive garage and are very good on price.

Thanks for the post Gaz.

Can you tell me what work they've done for you.....have you had them service your A8 for you and if so what did they charge you? Fairly recently I've had my 2000 4.2 QS service done by an Audi dealership so it would be interesting to see how the costs compair. Also, I've got a very slight oil leak coming from either the gear box or the axle coupling between the front and rear diffs. Also need to get the breaks serviced too.

Cheers.

I haven't had the car serviced there yet as I only discovered them 6 months ago but I will definatley get my next service done by them.
I've had quite a lot of work from new cambelt, radiator, brake disks, cover gasket also the diff seals and cover gasket done. This was all noted on the last Audi service and Audi wanted over £2500!!! Think I paid about just over half that to get all the work done(Think they charge about £50 per hour compared with Audi £100)!
They seem to be a very professionally run specialist and really great bunch of guys on the reception who are all major VA fans.
I felt a bit nervous taking my car elsewhere so I drove to see what sort of garage it was and where it was first and was quite impressed. To be honest I love my A8 but as its now becoming worthless in the car market I needed to find an independant specialist. They have a website check it out www.awesome-gti.co.uk

Good luck with whoever you choose.

Thanks gazz, i still have not serviced my car yet, im in London..so that garage is too far, cant seem to find any decent garages around my essex area, im thinking now of getting a mobile mechanic to service my car, (at least i can see if hes putting in all my original service parts i have brought rather than most garages putting in there trade stuff, and keeping my old/returning my puchased service bits..Also has any one managed to re-set the service light on the dash mine showing 2in2 now, can seem to reset mine even tried a (snap-on) diag tool, still didnt work..any thoughts guys...??.
