Ok establish that I only have front speakers so dont need to worry about rewiring them as the plug slots straight in no hassle.

It is block B I need help with. which is the picture above with five wires coming out:
red = Igniton (ACC)
blue = Auto antenna
orange = dimmer
yellow = battery 12v
black = ground

The block in the car is the black one in the pictures above, this has six wires, so I need to know which of those wires match up with the adaptor wires:
Car block Black:
B1blue/white =
B3 Green =
B4 Red =
B6 Blue/white=
B7 Red/purple = ignition? = Red on adaptor?
B8 Brown = ground? = Black on adaptor?

This is the information from the instal manual.
8.3 Supply voltage
ISO plug A:

A4: Attach the connection for +12V operational voltage (diameter at least 2.5 mm² for positive and ground wire) to terminal # 30
(permanent plus) of the vehicle.

A5: +12V switching voltage output (max. 0.5 A). When the device is turned on, the switching voltage adjoins contact A5 and
serves to retract or extract an automatic antenna and as operational voltage for antenna amplifiers.

A6: Connection for operating unit light.

A7: Connection for +12V trigger voltage. Connect to terminal # 15 of the vehicle.

A8: Connect the connection for the ground (diameter at least 2.5 mm² for positive and ground wire) to terminal # 31 (ground) of
the vehicle.

Out of curiousity is it possible to use the audi cd changer with aftermarket head units? Also is it possible to purchase an ISO adapter to make it all plug and play

Ok guys really need your help on this I am completely lost. I do have back speakers afterall and they work with the old stereo unit, but not on the new stereo. I figured out that at least some of the wires for them are on the small yellow block (see pictures above) and I think the rest are on the black block, which also has the power line too I think.

So to summarise, I am Lost!!! The aftermarket unit works and I get audio from front speakers, what it doesn't do is this:

1. It doesn't play on the back speakers
2. It doesn't hold anything in memory
3. It doesn't come on when I start the engine

All my wiring photos are above, there is a schematic on the back of the OEM stereo but I have no idea what the symbols mean. Please help

have you read this? (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=28649)

rear amp will be in a different place for a saloon, in the rear d/s door possibly?

Thanks just read it now, does this mean I need to pull out my glove box and dash to send audio to the back speakers. If anyone can talk me through an Instal I would much appreciate it, surely it can't be this complicated.

and this (http://isham-research.co.uk/quattro/wiring/Typ85/isopin.html) should prove invaluable in working out whats what.

think you're identification of the grnd, switched and perm 12v are correct.

Nope I am just taking a shot in the dark on all of this, trying to use logic to deduce things I cannot fathom. I have uploaded better pictures of my assembly and a pic of the wiring schemeatic, if you can have a look please. They are above

Thanks so much fir that link thats what I had been looking for all night. This fix was so simple I am almost embarressed to leave this topic up, but I will because it may help someone else.

i now have the stereo working, though the back speakers still are not linked in but I will deal with them another time, as bipassing amps and back door removal may be a bridge too far at the moment.

Thanks again for all your help, now its time to go and get some fascia :) all tips on best buys for this most welcome.

hi, i was wondering whether you knew the answer to my problem. i have an audi a4 1.9 tdi 03' and i have no acc/ignition wire? i have taken a feed off the fuse for the heated rear window fuse temporaraily. but i am looking for the feed where the unit will stay on when the ignition is turned off AND when the key has NOT been removed from the barrel? any ideas? thank you.

by the looks of it yes, the silvercresdt unit doesn't show line level outputs for an external amp so you'd have to lay your own speaker cable direct to the speakers.

no idea, i don't see why anyone would have removed it?

The sivercrest has jack plugs for left and right and a subwooefer jack to, can these be used to conect to the back speakers?

you could do, you'll also need to send a 12v switched supply to the amp as well to tell it to turn on when the headunit does.

i think you're gonna have problems with the volume though, the original concert head unit must have some method of telling the rear amp how loud to go and keep it in sync with the fronts. i couldn't even tell you which output it would be on the original unit, let alone what you could substitute it with on the new one.

Screw it I never sit in the back, very difficult to do when driving, the onlhy one ever in there really is my 2 year old daughter and she is happy to sing to herself. I will get the other problems sorted out first and then deal with that at some later stage. Thanks again for all your help. I got the car all polished up and did a touch up job all around today as well as detailing the whle inside so its looking good now. I will post pics soon.

The yellow lead from the Audi loom is the preamp connection to the amplifier. In order to connect the pre-amp output leads you have you need a Autoleads adapter. (Audi to Phono - part number PC9-404)

This will allow the RCA (or phono as they are also called) leads from your new head unit to connect to the amp. If you connect the rear pre-out leads you will be able control the volume of the rear speakers using the fader on the new unit.

Hope that helps.

Thanks again froggy, I will see if I can find that adapter online somewhere. I have two jack cables that came with the stereo so I should be able to connect up easily enough. Thanks again for all the help.

I have fitted a Sony MEX BT2600 stereo to my car today and after some initial niggles it works perfectly - Including the rear speakers !

I have a similar wiring loom in my car to that above - The black plug is self explanatory - main power feeds and plugs straight into the loom that came with the stereo.
I have a brown plug which is the loom only for the front speakers - again plugs straight into the new Sony stereo loom.
The parts I had to "doctor" slightly were ( Suprise suprise ! ) for the rear speakers.- the Yellow plug in the diagram.
I have cut this plug off ( kept it in a safe place and with enough wire remaining in the plug to reconnect with a block connector or similar in the future if ever necessary ) and cut the new stereo loom and connected up the rear speakers using block connectors - The blue/red stripe and blue/green stripe wires in the yellow plug are the positives ( on the Sony stereo loom the wire without the stripe is the positive - get this wrong and the speakers distort like mad as soon as you turn it up a bit - thats the only bit I went wrong on )
Strangely the negatives from the rear speakers ( the brown wires from the yellow plug ) are joined together - which I have done on the new loom and works.
My new head unit loom also had a low amp output which you need to connect the white lead from the yellow plug to.
Also needed to switch the constant live and ignition live over ( red/yellow wires on the Sony loom ) - instructions supplied say to do this if the memory doesnt store the clock time correctly.

The other leads in the green and blue plugs I assume relate to the control of the CD changer - which as I don't have one means they arent connected to anything.

And thats it ! - All working and even with the standard Nokia speakers it sounds fantastic !

Only criticism is that there doesnt seem to be any way of locking the cage for the stereo in place so it will come out very easily should anyone try and steal it. Its not possible to bend the tabs on the cage as theres nothing to grip to and the pin/plug thats designed to fit into the firewall of most cars won't work on the A4 as theres a lot of space between the back of the stereo and the firewall.

Hope this is useful !

Very usefull info in this thread. Just one problem, on the yellow block i only have one return!! So two positive out, one amp switch out and only one speaker return!
Does anyone know if it starts at two wires as it comes out of the amp, in the boot in my avant, i've not managed to get all the trim off yet to have a proper look.

Capri Rob - thanks!

I have had the same problem, with a Sony HU. After following your instructions it is now all working. It would also seem that you are the only person to post a wiring instruction that did not involve spending £20 on a conversion harness...
