High Mileage Diesel Oil, Passat TDi

Will be doing a service in a few weeks on my 1997 TDi (110) Passat. I used a magnetex diesel oil last time, but halfords are offering their 5w-40 fully synthetic diesel oil for £19.99 (5ltr) which is a very good price, also suitable for VW 50500. I read that the 5w-40 diesel oil may be a little too thin for a high mileage engine, mine is on 178,000 and was wondering whether 10w-40, 15w-40 would be better for my engine?

Any ideas??

hi did my oil change last month put 10w 40 magnatec mine has done 114900miles not as high as yours. 1998 tdi 110
