I have got a problem with my MAF and I was wondering if it was left unplugged till I can get it sorted would it cause any problems :confused:

Hi does anyone have any ideas about this and also what is it that the MAF does?

The MAF measures the quantity and temperature of air entering the engine, and from that the ECU calculates how much fuel to provide (I think!). This is ofcourse governed by how much you press the accelerator.

If it's left unplugged you may not notice any difference in performance...this would suggest that the MAF is faulty.

If you unplug it and the car seriously lacks power (usually when you put your foot down) then it would probably suggest that the MAF is OK.

I think my description of what a MAF does is reasonable accurate..someone else will probably chip in with a better description.
