1999 Cabriolet seat belts not winding

Hi

Both my driverside and passenger side seat belts dont retract when uncoupled. Consequently, I am forever jamming them in the doors !

1) Can the belt winders be adjusted so that they wind the belt in automatically again ?

2) If not i.e. I have to buy new...what's the procedure for getting the old ones out because it looks as though I have to remove the rear side cards ?

Any advice to either question appreciated

Are the belts damp? I'm sure I've read somewhere that using talcum powder on seatbelts helps them to rewind and does'nt damage clothing. Maybe someone else will confirm this;)
