My 04 plate TDI 130 is rather smokey under medium acceleration. Is this normal? The smoke is grey.

Hi
Mine does the same but under hard acceleration the car behind dissapears in a cloud of black smoke. Currently complaining to the dealer about poor fuel consumption, 36 average 40 on a run might all be related.

Any chance you could post the nature of the fault (if any) on here when (if) it gets fixed Andy.
Just think it might be useful to other users as a reference.

Cheers,

Marc.

My VW indie's recommendation was a blast at 100mph in 4th, or just a good thumping through the gears should resolve it.

A good thumping through the gears up to around 60 or 70 on some de-restricted back roads would be more legal, provided you are comfortable thrashing your car on the twisty bits.

Hi, i think your vw specialist was reffering at unclogging/clearing the injectors that way and work the turbocharger vanes, clean the intake of soot and clear the exhaust as well !

Hi Andy
Sounds exactly the same as mine. Have you made any progress with your dealer?

Hi Jeremy
Took it in to the dealer today and they did the usual stuck it on the computer and said "there's no fault codes showing" what happened to good old mechanics with expert knowledge? Anyway after much badgering they have (reluctantly) changed the MAF admitting that this can be faulty but not show on the diagnostics, what other faults can there be that don't show on the diagnostics quite a few I would think after all these are ordinary vehicles not Formula 1 and they certainly do not monitor all of the parameters, any way I'll keep all posted with the outcome.
Andy.

Could also check for boost leak, i.e. split pipe, this will overfuel the engine and power will be down.
